Signs it is time to replace your water heater
Some water heater problems are worth repairing. Others mean the tank is done. Call us for a replacement if you notice:
- Age over 10 years. Check the serial number on the label. Once a tank passes 10 to 12 years, failure is a matter of when, not if.
- Water pooling around the base. A leak from the tank itself cannot be repaired. Shut off the cold water supply and call us.
- Rusty or discolored hot water. This usually means the tank is corroding from the inside.
- Rumbling, popping or banging. Sediment buildup on the bottom of the tank makes it work harder and shortens its life.
- Not enough hot water. If showers run cold sooner than they used to, the tank may be losing capacity to sediment or a failing element.
- Repeated repairs. When the thermocouple, gas valve or elements keep failing on an older unit, the money is better spent on a new one.
